WordPress technical audit price: what is it, when do you need it and how much does it cost?

If your WordPress website is slow, giving errors or you simply suspect that it is not performing as it should, you probably need a WordPress technical audit. It is one of the queries I receive most as a senior WordPress developer, and also one of the most misunderstood: many customers confuse an audit with passing an automatic tool and get a generic PDF. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In this article I will explain to you exactly what is included in a WordPress web audit professional, in what situations you really need it and, above all, how much it will cost in Spain in 2026 with real prices according to the type of service.

What is a WordPress technical audit

A WordPress audit is a thorough and systematic review of all technical aspects that affect the performance, security and stability of your website. It's not just about detecting visible errors, but about analyzing what's going on under the hood: code, database, server configuration, plugins, theme, technical SEO and much more.

In my workflow with PHP and WordPress, a full technical audit covers these areas:

  • Performance and loading speed: analysis of Core Web Vitals, TTFB, resources that block rendering and asset optimization.
  • Safety: review of vulnerabilities in plugins, file permissions, HTTP headers, protection against SQL injections and XSS.
  • Database: detection of orphaned tables, accumulated revisions, expired transients and slow queries.
  • Plugins and theme: analysis of the impact of each plugin on performance, detection of conflicts and obsolete or abandoned plugins.
  • Technical SEO: URL structure, indexing, structured data, canonical tags, sitemap and crawling.
  • Hosting configuration: PHP version, memory limits, cache configuration, CDN and SSL certificate.
  • Usability and accessibility: mobile user experience, WCAG accessibility and navigation structure.

What differentiates a professional audit from an automatic report: Tools like GTmetrix or PageSpeed Insights give you data, but they don't tell you what to do with it or prioritize actions according to the real impact on your business. A manual audit includes a contextualized diagnosis and a prioritized action plan.

When you need a WordPress web audit

Not every website needs an audit every month, but there are clear signs that it is time for one:

Your website loads slowly (more than 3 seconds)

If your pages take more than 3 seconds to load, you are losing visitors and Google rankings. An audit identifies exactly what is holding your website back: it could be a heavy plugin, unoptimized images, a bloated database or inadequate hosting.

You have suffered a drop in organic traffic

Sudden drops in traffic may be due to technical problems that are not obvious to the naked eye: crawl errors, duplicate content, speed penalties or indexing problems. A SEO audit technique is the first step in diagnosing the problem.

Inherit a project from another developer or agency

This is one of the most common scenarios in my day to day life. You receive a WordPress developed by another vendor and you don't know what state it's in. According to RibsWeb, specialized in WordPress project recovery, As a result, many agencies need to audit websites poorly delivered by other providers before they can work on them.

You are going to scale your online business

Before investing in advertising, SEO or redesign, it makes sense to audit the technical base. There is no point in driving traffic to a website that loads slowly, has 404 errors or does not convert due to usability problems.

You do not remember when was the last technical review

If your website has gone more than a year without a thorough technical overhaul, it has almost certainly accumulated technical debt: outdated plugins, unnecessary database tables, obsolete code and possible security breaches.

Attention: if your WordPress website has been hacked, you don't need an audit: you need an urgent malware cleanup first and then an audit to close the entry ways. They are different services and should not be mixed.

WordPress technical audit price: how much it costs in Spain in 2026

These are the ranges of WordPress technical audit price I manage in the current Spanish market, contrasted with data from actual suppliers:

Basic audit (report + diagnosis)

Price: 90 € - 200 €.

Delivery time: 24-48 hours

Including: general performance review, safety and basic technical SEO

Deliverable: report with detected problems and recommendations

Ideal for: small sites or initial diagnosis

Professional audit (report + intervention)

Price: 190 € - 500 €.

Delivery time: 3-5 working days

Includes: complete audit + correction of critical problems detected.

Deliverable: detailed report + implementation of prioritized improvements

Ideal for: corporate websites and small e-commerce sites

Premium audit (comprehensive analysis + action plan)

Price: 500 € - 900 € +

Delivery time: 5-10 working days

Includes: complete manual review of code, server, database, SEO and security.

Deliverable: documentation of measurements (before/after), detailed report, explanatory video and prioritized action plan

Ideal for: complex projects, high-traffic online stores or business-critical sites

For reference, Destaca offers its WordPress technical audit from €695 + VAT, including complete manual review, report with comparative measurements and explanatory video. On the other hand, RibsWeb offers plans from 90 € for basic audits up to 400 €/month for agency packs with 5 monthly audits..

Important: be wary of audits that rely exclusively on automated tools. If someone offers you a «full audit» for €30 generated with a plugin, what you are getting is a report that you could get yourself for free. A real professional audit involves manual analysis by an experienced developer.

How much to charge for WordPress web maintenance?

This question is directly related to audits because, in my experience, most of the problems detected by an audit could have been avoided with a good maintenance plan. The usual ranges in Spain for WordPress web maintenance are:

  • Basic maintenance (updates + backups): 30 € - 80 €/month
  • Professional maintenance (updates + backups + security + support): 80 € - 200 €/month
  • Premium maintenance (all of the above + continuous optimization + development hours): 200 € - 500 €/month

If you are a developer or freelancer and you are asking yourself how much to charge for WordPress web maintenance, my recommendation is that you should never go below 50 €/month. Below that figure, you cannot offer a real quality service and you will end up losing money or leaving tasks undone, which is detrimental to the client in the medium term.

My approach: include a light technical audit as part of the annual maintenance plan. Every 6-12 months I do an in-depth review of the websites I maintain. This allows me to detect problems before they become emergencies and maintain optimal performance on an ongoing basis.

How much does an SEO audit cost?

Many clients come in asking for a technical audit when in fact they need a technical audit. SEO audit, or vice versa. They are complementary but different services. An SEO audit focuses on organic positioning, while a technical audit covers a broader spectrum.

The prices of a SEO audit in Spain in 2026 range from

  • Basic SEO audit (on-page): 150 € - 400 €
  • Complete SEO audit (on-page + off-page + technical + content): 400 € - 1.200 €
  • SEO audit for large e-commerce: 1.000 € - 3.000 €+

In my workflow, when a client asks me for a WordPress technical audit, I always include a technical SEO section because both aspects are intimately connected. It's no use having a flawless code if Google can't crawl your website correctly.

Is the website auditor free of charge?

There are free tools available that give you an overview of the status of your website, and can be a good starting point for a wordpress website audit basic:

  • Google PageSpeed Insights: performance, accessibility and best practices (free of charge).
  • Google Search Console: crawling, indexing and search performance errors (free).
  • GTmetrix: speed analysis with request cascade (limited free plan).
  • Sucuri SiteCheck: basic malware and blacklist scanning (free).
  • Plugin Health Check & Troubleshooting: diagnostics of the WordPress environment from the dashboard itself (free).

Important limitation: these free tools show you symptoms, not causes. They may tell you that your LCP is 4.5 seconds, but they don't explain that the problem is a form plugin that loads scripts on all pages instead of just where it is used. That level of diagnosis requires a professional to review the code manually.

If your budget is tight, these free tools can help you identify if there are serious problems. But if your website generates business, investing in a professional audit will save you time, money and headaches in the medium term.

What a good WordPress technical audit should include

In order for you to be able to evaluate budgets with criteria, these are the elements that I consider essential in a professional audit:

  • Documented previous measurements: captures of speed, scores and metrics before any intervention in order to be able to compare before and after.
  • Review of the server configuration: PHP version, memory limits, cache type, OPcache configuration.
  • Plug-in analysis: each plugin installed should be evaluated for its impact on performance, security and whether it is really necessary.
  • Revision of the database: cleaning of transients, revisions, comment spam and orphaned tables of uninstalled plugins.
  • Technical SEO: robots.txt, sitemap, canonical, hreflang, structured data and crawl errors.
  • Report with priorities: it is not enough to list problems. A good audit will sort them by impact and urgency, indicating what to solve first.
  • Actionable recommendations: each problem must be accompanied by a concrete solution, not generic phrases such as «improve speed».

When you do NOT need an audit

To be honest, it doesn't always make sense to invest in a full audit:

  • If your website is less than 6 months old and was developed by a competent professional, it is too early for a full audit. It is sufficient to monitor basic metrics.
  • If you are going to redesign the website from scratch, auditing the current site makes little sense. Better to invest that budget in getting the new project right.
  • If your website is a personal blog with no business objectives, free tools are probably sufficient.

Contract your WordPress technical audit

If you've made it this far, your website probably needs an overhaul. In my experience as a WordPress developer specializing in PHP and custom plugin development, technical issues that are not addressed in time always end up costing more than a preventive audit.

I offer technical audits tailored to the size and complexity of each project, with clear reports, real measurements and a prioritized action plan so you know exactly what to do and in what order.

Contract audit and I will prepare a complete diagnosis of your WordPress with concrete recommendations and implementation budget if you need it.
